Service

Contributing to the community and supporting important causes are core values of Kappa Phi Lambda. Whether it's by volunteering in our community right here in Columbus or by supporting our national and local philanthropies (CARE and 1girl, respectively), the pillar of service empowers our sisters to tackle socioeconomic issues such as economic injustice, gender inequality, domestic violence, and hate crimes. We take pride in our dedication to giving back and supporting organizations that endlessly work to make the world a better place.

Community Service

One of the ways that we uphold our pillar of Service is by going out into our community to better the lives of those in the Greater Columbus area. Each year, our chapter participates in OSU’s major annual service events, Community Commitment and MLK Day of Service, both of which involve paying it forward to the surrounding community. In addition, many of our sisters enjoy volunteering at the Asian American Community Services, as well as tutoring and playing with kids within the local Healthy Asian Youth (HAY) program. In past years, our chapter has also participated in events with other organizations to create blankets for the homeless, serve food at soup kitchens, and sort donations at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Philanthropy

Our National Philanthropy

Kappa Phi Lambda's national philanthropy is CARE, a leading humanitarian organization working around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. By responding to natural disasters, empowering and educating women and girls, and providing health programs to communities, CARE strives to help develop a world where all people can live with dignity and security. Our sisters value CARE's commitment to women's empowerment and the fight to end poverty, and work to support the organization through monetary donations and educational opportunities.

Our Local Philanthropy

Our chapter's local philanthropy is 1girl, a Columbus organization dedicated to empowering middle schools to develop the skills they need to be successful through a unique, proven curriculum. 1girl operates through pre-existing afterschool and summer sites to teach young girls public speaking, creative problem solving, critical thinking, goal setting, and conflict resolution. Empowering girls to become leaders is a mission that we, as a chapter, admire and support year after year through monetary donations, as well as by spreading awareness of 1girl's incredible work.
