Community Service

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.

One of Kappa Phi Lambda's three pillars is Service, and one of the ways that we exemplify this pillar in our every day lives is by going out into our community to better the lives of those living in the Greater Columbus area.

Omicron Chapter participates in OSU's annual Rock the Block service event, in which all of Greek Life comes together during our annual Greek Week in May to perform service within the community on one day. We also participate in the annual MLK Service Day, also organized by OSU, in which all members of OSU's student body come together for a day of service in honor of the late Martin Luther King, Jr. on MLK Day. OSU's third major community service project on campus is called Community Commitment and is done at the beginning of every school year, with students from campus coming together and heading out into the community to make Greater Columbus a better place to live. All three of these annual events involve activities such as helping out non-profit organizations around campus, and trash pickups of the streets and parks around campus.

In past years, our chapter has also participated in events with other organizations to create blankets for the homeless, serve food at soup kitchens, sort donations at the Mid Ohio Food Bank and help out with other non-profit organizations' programming and even helping them finish their mundane, but necessary, office work. Another community service activity that many of our sisters enjoy taking part in is volunteering at the Asian American Community Services and tutoring and playing with kids within the Healthy Asian Youth (HAY) program.
